Course Description
NeuroMeditation for Suicidal Ideation Course
Living with or experiencing Suicidal Ideation is truly brutal and terrifying. Learning how and when to intervene, to reduce and to regulate Suicidal Ideation is a lifeline and can drastically improve the lived experience, and even save lives. NeuroMeditation (brain-based) can be a profound tool for people living with Suicidal Ideation.Through this class students will learn: which NeuroMeditations are helpful when feeling activated and to avert or interrupt activation; learn when to use these interventions because timing matters; the relationship between activation, the nervous system and the Vagus Nerve; how to use NM tools to for ongoing regulation, and reduction of, activation.
Through this class students will learn: the basics of using NeuroMeditation for living with Suicidal Ideation; how NeuroMeditation impacts the brain, the nervous system and the Vagus Nerve and how that relates to SI; which NeuroMeditation styles are most helpful for various states of activation; how to interrupt the amygdala and the signaling of the activation and return to safety and calm - to regulate the nervous system with NM; how to practice movement meditation and sitting NeuroMeditations to bring safety, calm, balance and to restore the system; how to identify which of the senses engage their brain the most, and which imagery is best for them; and gain tools and link for further practice.
NeuroMeditation:
can interrupt the signalling of the amygdala and activation
aids in calming and quieting the nervous system and in shifting into the calm/rest/safe state of the parasypathetic nervous system
generates self-awareness
builds interoception - the awareness of what is happening in the body
fosters a calm, expansive awareness
increases inner quiet and stillness
returns the mind and body to a neutral state
strengthens capacity for self- regulation and reducing activation
Learning Objectives:
As a result of completing the course, students will be able to:
relate how NeuroMeditation impacts the brain
understand what is happening in the brain and body with activation
explain the role of the nervous system and the Vagus Nerve in activation
identify which style(s) of NM are most helpful for the experience of living with SI
determine how and when to use NM for SI and Suicidal Activation
discern which style of NM to practice depending on the felt experience in the body
engage in movement meditations to calm, soothe and quiet the system
practice guided sitting NeuroMeditations helpful for SI
identify which of their senses they connect with most as a route to reduce activation of SI and to return to safety
determine what type of imagery they most strongly connect with and understand the importance of connecting with the "right" imagery for the each individual
access links and resources for continued practice and for other tools that can be beneficial for people living with Suicidal Ideation
After the course, students will have: a basic understanding of NeuroMeditation; knowledge about the nervous system and the Vagus Nerve, and their role in our experience of Suicidal Ideation; insight into the various manifestations of SI and which styles of NeuroMeditation are most helpful; an awareness of how and when to practice these NeuroMeditations to reduce and regulate activation of SI; experience with soothing, calming and restoring the self, through movement meditations and guided sitting NeuroMeditations; recognition of which senses and imagery their brains connect with most easily; and the tools and ability to continue independent practice at home.
