NeuroMeditation for Depression Course
Depression is one of the most difficult issue to live with. Its impacts on the quality and structure of life, are varied, often negative and generally profound. Understanding the different types of depression and the difference between active and inactive depression, can help people better identify which style of NeuroMeditation (brain-based) is needed. This class will focus on using NeuroMeditative practices and tools to reduce frequency of depressive cycles, as well as, assist in shifting out of an active state of depression.
Through this class students will learn: the different types of Depression and the difference between active and inactive Depression; the basics of using NeuroMeditation for Depression; how NM impacts the brain, the nervous system and the Vagus Nerve and how that relates to the Depression; which styles of Meditation are most helpful for Depression and when to use them; how to practice movement meditations and sitting NeuroMeditations for Depression; and which imagery and senses they most easily connect with.
NeuroMeditation for Depression:
aids in balancing the mind - bringing equilibrium to the typical asymmetry in the brain when depressed
reduces rumination
reduces judgement of self and others
diminishes loneliness and the sense of isolation
reduces psycho-motor slowing
softens and soothes the deep inner pain of Depression
can support averting a depressive cycle coming on - when noticed early
increases inner peace
generates self-acceptance and self-forgiveness
fosters connection and feeling woven into life
reduces self-harm and suicidal ideation
assists in lifting out of a depressive cycle
Learning Objectives:
As a result of completing the course, students will be able to:
understand the foundation of NeuroMeditation and the effect NM has on the brain and on Depression
use NeuroMeditations to respond to various states of Depression - active/inactive
define the types of Depression and their typical manifestations
determine which style of NeuroMeditation is best depending on state of activation
relate the relationship between Depression and the Vagus Nerve - as well as basics about the nerve, and the critical role it plays in our lived experience of daily life
select from the various ways to practice NeuroMeditations for both states of Depression
practice movement meditations for Depression
practice sitting NeuroMeditations which are helpful for Depression
discern which of the senses they easily connect with as a route to reduce active depression and reestablish balance
determine what type of imagery they most connect with and understand the importance of connecting with the "right" imagery for the each individual
access links and resources for continued practice and other tools that can be beneficial for people living with Depression
After the course, students will have: a basic understanding of NeuroMeditation, the Nervous System and the Vagus Nerve, and their role in our experience of Depression; insight into the various types of Depression, the difference between active and inactive Depression and which styles of NeuroMeditation are most helpful; knowledge of how and when to practice these NeuroMeditations; experience soothing and supporting the self, through movement meditations and sitting meditations; insight into which senses and imagery their brains connect with most easily; the tools and ability to continue independent practice at home.
