Course Description
This critical, specialized course provides a targeted, lifeline approach to managing and regulating Suicidal Ideation (SI). Acknowledging the profound pain and intensity of this experience, the curriculum utilizes the NeuroMeditation (NM) framework as a rapid, brain-based tool for intervention. Students gain essential, actionable knowledge on how and when to intervene to avert or interrupt suicidal activation. The core focus is on the neurobiology of crisis: learning to interrupt the signaling of the amygdala and regulate the severely dysregulated nervous system. Emphasis is placed on understanding the crucial role of the Vagus Nerve in activation and deploying specific NM techniques to quickly return the system to a safe and calm state (parasympathetic shift). Through guided sitting and movement meditations, students build vital self-awareness and interoception. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, integrating both sitting and movement meditations to connect students with the optimal sensory routes and imagery for their unique neurobiology.
Understand the neurological basis of suicidal activation, including the rapid signaling in the brain and the role of the Vagus Nerve in this process.
Determine which of the four core NeuroMeditation styles is most helpful for managing and intervening during active Suicidal Ideation and activation, recognizing that timing matters.
Apply specific NM practices to interrupt amygdala signaling, calm and quiet the system, and actively shift the mind and body back to a neutral, safe state.
