Course Description
This specialized course offers a compassionate, yet scientifically informed approach for individuals navigating the difficult terrain of grief and loss. It examines the profound impact of loss on the brain, body, and psyche, including its connection to cycles of anxiety, depression, and identity struggles. Students will learn how to leverage the brain-based techniques of NeuroMeditation (NM) to address the various thoughts, feelings, and physiological states inherent in the grieving process. The curriculum details how NM techniques—integrated with an understanding of the Vagus Nerve—can provide soothing and comfort to pain, bring stillness to the racing mind, and promote grounding and inner strength. Students will gain the ability to accurately select the most helpful NM style at any point in their journey, from generating energy during depressive lows to fostering acceptance and softening the experience of adjusting to absence. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, integrating both sitting and movement meditations to connect students with the optimal sensory routes and imagery for their unique neurobiology.
Understand the neurological and physiological effects of grief and loss, including its specific impact on the Vagus Nerve and nervous system function.
Determine which of the four core NeuroMeditation styles is most beneficial for responding to the shifting emotional and energetic states (e.g., anxiety, depression, racing thoughts) associated with grief.
Apply NM practices to calm and quiet the system, aiding the shift into the parasympathetic safe state and fostering greater acceptance of the experience.
Ascertain the most effective sensory routes or imagery for personal practice to strengthen the recall of cherished memories while remaining connected to the present moment.
